Domestic Violence Laws and Processes: Effecting Change - Safeguarding Families (Exploring the Options in Ireland)

Conference Convenor: Dr Louise Crowley, School of Law, UCC.
This conference will examine the need for a domestic abuse intervention system which seeks to address and effect change in the behaviour of the perpetrator to improve the lives of victims of such abuse. The conference will consider existing Irish laws and processes in light of preliminary research data sourced and developed through collaboration between the School of Law at UCC and the services provided by MOVE (Men Overcoming Violence) Cork. The experiences of service providers, including MOVE Cork, White Ribbon Ireland and the Irish Probation Service will provide an insight into a number of the services currently operating in Ireland. Finally the experiences of both Scotland and Australia will be described by visiting colleagues to present an illustration of reform possibilities in the Irish context. The conference aims to explore alternative possibilities in this challenging context and to provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge and informed discussion amongst interested parties.

This conference and the related research are generously funded by an Irish Research Council New Foundations Grant 2015.
