“Intersecting Spheres: Exploring the Relationships between Ethics, Law and Medicine”

4 March 2016: 2.00 to 5.30 pm

Venue: Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, Lecture Theatre G10

Conference Convenors: Professor Mary Donnelly and Dr Claire Murray

Continuing Professional Development: 3.5 hours Group Study (General)

At the heart of the Irish health system, there is an interplay between ethics, law and medicine. Yet, beyond the headline issues which occasionally emerge, we have limited understanding of how this interplay operates in practice. This conference draws on ethical, legal and medical experts who have wide experience working at the intersections of these fields to provide cross-disciplinary perspectives of the role of ethics and law in healthcare. The conference aims to facilitate dialogue around different professional approaches to issues relevant to healthcare in Ireland. It will be of interest to ethicists, legal and healthcare professionals, and to students and academics working in ethics, legal and healthcare fields, as well as to anyone with an interest in how these important questions are dealt with in practice and how public understanding of this area might be enhanced and improved.
