NATO Advanced Study Institute ‘Nanomaterials and Nanoarchitectures’ - 30/06/2013-08/07/2013

A complex review of current hot topics and their applications in photovoltaics, plasmonics, environmental and security areas.

The NATO Advanced Study Institute “Nanomaterials and Nanoarchitectures” is intended for PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. It is a high level teaching activity, which will include lectures about metamaterials (Harald Giessen, Germany), biomimetics (Hiroshi Fudouzi, Japan), ALD/CVD (Martyn Pemble, Ireland), Surface Plasmon Resonance and its applications and sensors (Ricardo Aroca, Canada and Osvaldo Oliveira, Brazil), chemistry and LbL deposition (Gero Decher, France), nanoporous materials (Yuri Lvov, Luisiana, USA), different aspects of PhCs and their applications (Sergei Romanov, Germany and Yuri Kumzerov, Russia), LB technique (Maria Bardosova, Ireland), chalcogenide glasses (Miloslav Frumar and Tomas Wagner, Czech Republic) and nanoarchitecture concepts (Katsuhiko Ariga, Japan). “Nanotechnology and Society” will be lectured by Stefan Luby, Slovaki! a (a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and a former President of ALLEA), who will also moderate 2 evening Round table discussions. There will be one laboratory session where the students will get an opportunity to work with the new devices from 3 firms and make some experiments with halyosite nanoclay. The complete programme and timetable of lectures will be available at the beginning of May. The event is a part of Framework 7 IRSES project PHANTASY (“Photonic Applications of Nanoparticle Assemblies and Systems”). It will be followed by The 13th European Conference on Organized Films (ECOF13).
